Prince George’s County to Resume Regular Waste and Recycling Collection Feb. 2
Prince George’s County will resume regularly scheduled waste and recycling collection the week of Monday, Feb. 2; organics service resumed Feb. 2, easing disruptions from late-January weather.

Prince George’s County will resume its regularly scheduled waste and recycling collection the week of Monday, February 2, 2026, restoring services that were disrupted by late-January storms. Organics collection for food scraps and yard trim resumed Monday, February 2.
The suspension followed a sequence of weather-related actions across late January. The county announced on January 23 that it was suspending food compost and yard trim collection for Monday, January 26. A January 25 press release closed waste collection and animal services facilities to the public on January 26 due to weather and road conditions, and an official Instagram post stated: “Due to inclement weather, waste and recycling collection services for Tuesday, January 27, 2026, are suspended in Prince George's County.” Those notices together interrupted curbside routes and drop-off access for several days.
Residents should expect routine routing to return this week but should follow county pickup guidance to avoid missed collection. “County curbside waste collection pickup begins at 6 a.m. Residents should have their items at the curb to avoid a missed collection.” Curbside services include “trash; yard trim; compost; recycling; bulky trash; electronics and scrap metal (by appointment only).” Electronic items and scrap metal require an appointment for curbside pickup; Brown Station Landfill accepts electronics and offers scrap metal and tire recycling for a fee at 11611 White House Road in Upper Marlboro.
Household equipment is provided under the county-contracted service: the county issues “one (1) recycling wheeled cart, one (1) trash wheeled cart, and one (1) organics wheeled cart” to eligible residences. After collection, residents must remove carts from the curb under county code: “Per Prince George’s County Code Section 21-113 (d) (1), residents must remove their trash and recycling carts or receptacles from the curb on the scheduled collection day after the service is completed.” If a PGC311 Service Request prompts inspection and a notice is issued, residents have 48 hours to comply; if a container remains, the county will retrieve the cart and will not replace it, leaving the resident responsible for purchasing a replacement. Carts also must not be used to reserve or block parking spaces, and landlords are responsible for informing tenants of requirements.
For questions or to file service requests, contact the Sustainable Waste Management Division at 301-952-7625, 3500 Brown Station Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774, Mon-Fri 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Constituents may also contact PGC311 by dialing 3-1-1 or (301) 883-4748 for collection-day information or to request a recycling bin. City of Hyattsville guidance directs residents to the county’s collection-day lookup map to confirm their pickup day and suggests placing bins curbside the night before to avoid missed pickups.
Restored routes should relieve curbside buildup and get bulky and organics programs back on schedule; residents who missed a pickup this week should use PGC311 to report missed service and follow the county’s removal rules to avoid enforcement and replacement costs.
