Two Maryland State Police troopers were struck and hospitalized after a Maserati sedan rear-ended a patrol vehicle on northbound Branch Avenue near Allentown Road shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, sending both officers to a local hospital before they were later released.

Maryland State Police identified the driver as Avery Alexander Bost, 31, of Upper Marlboro. Bost is charged with suspected impaired driving and other related traffic offenses following the early-morning crash in Prince George's County.

According to the preliminary investigation, the first trooper had parked a marked patrol vehicle behind an unoccupied car stopped in the left lane of Branch Avenue. A second trooper then positioned his marked cruiser directly behind the first, and both police vehicles had their emergency lights activated. Bost's Maserati struck the rear of the second patrol vehicle, a collision that caused that cruiser to slam into the trooper standing outside it and then into the back of the first patrol vehicle, police said.

Ambulances transported both troopers to a local hospital; both have since been released. No names or specific injury details for the troopers were released by Maryland State Police.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police College Park Barrack are leading the ongoing investigation. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure on Branch Avenue following the crash.

Branch Avenue near Allentown Road is a heavily traveled corridor through the Camp Springs area, and the stretch of northbound roadway remained closed for a period while investigators worked the scene. The reason the unoccupied vehicle was stopped in the left lane before the crash has not been disclosed by police.

Bost is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. No court date or additional charge details had been released as of Sunday evening.
