No Trash Pickup Wednesday; Wed-Fri Delayed One Day, Recycling Canceled
City sanitation crews suspended Wednesday pickup for safety; Wednesday-Friday trash routes were delayed one day and recycling was canceled for the week.

Trash collection was suspended Wednesday after city officials determined street conditions made curbside work unsafe for sanitation crews and residents. The city posted a sanitation and recycling service update on January 27 announcing that trash trucks would not operate Wednesday and that the week’s schedule would shift.
Under the revised schedule, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday trash pickup was delayed by one day, meaning customers whose normal pickup fell on Wednesday should expect service on Thursday, Thursday routes move to Friday, and Friday routes will be collected on Saturday. Recycling service was canceled for the week and is expected to resume on its regular schedule next week.
Officials warned that Monday and Tuesday routes next week will be heavier than usual and said those collections will be accommodated. Customers on Monday and Tuesday routes were instructed they may place extra trash bags next to their carts and those extra bags will be collected. The city advised residents to monitor carts and curbside setouts through the end of the week and to secure loose material to prevent wind-scattered debris.
The update noted safety as the primary driver of the change. Sanitation crews often face hazardous driving and lifting conditions when streets are slick or obstructed, and delaying service reduces risk while allowing crews to work more efficiently once conditions improve. The pause and schedule shift aim to protect both workers and households while keeping the overall collection cycle on track.
For households and small businesses, the changes mean planning for a shifted trash day and holding recyclables until service resumes. Residents who rely on a strict trash routine should mark the adjusted days and avoid placing carts out early to reduce clutter on sidewalks and thoroughfares. Those with large or bulky disposals may need to stagger setouts or contact the Utility Office for guidance.
The Utility Office can assist with questions about routes or special pickups; the city provided a contact number: 972-636-2250, option 3. Watch city communications and official social channels for any further updates if weather or street conditions change.
What this means for Rockwall County residents is a short-term adjustment rather than an extended disruption: trash collection was delayed by a day for the midweek routes, recycling was canceled for the week, and next week’s Monday and Tuesday collections will accept additional bags to catch up. Residents should secure trash, note their new pickup day, and contact the Utility Office if they need help.
