A newly formed nonprofit, a local food vendor, two road actions, and a courthouse remodel all converged on the same agenda when Judge Frank New and the Rockwall County Commissioners Court convened at the Historic Courthouse on March 24.

David Peek appeared before the court on behalf of the Rockwall County Veterans Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit organized specifically to pursue repair and renovation work at the memorial on the courthouse grounds. The presentation marked the foundation's public debut before county leadership and opens the door to fundraising and contracting work tied to one of the county's most visible historical assets.

Commissioner Gallana brought a separate proposal from The Bagel Lady, a local business seeking to operate a food and coffee cart at the courthouse at 1101 E. Yellowjacket Lane. The request puts commissioners in familiar territory: weighing support for a local small business against the protocols that govern use of public space.

County Engineer Erika Bridges presented aspects of the 2027 Master Thoroughfare Plan update, which will influence how Rockwall County builds out road connections and manages growth corridors for years ahead. Right-of-way and bidding actions for Crenshaw Road East were also addressed, pairing near-term construction steps with the longer-range planning work.

The court advanced several items tied to the ongoing Sheriff's Office remodel, a project with direct implications for law enforcement operations and the detention center. Temporary displacement planning for personnel during construction phases was part of the discussion, and the court approved a $5,995 construction-audit contract for courtroom infill work.

The county posted a video recording of the full session on March 25. Meeting minutes, the agenda packet, and supporting documents are available through the Commissioners Court office for residents who want to review the details.
