Rockwall County Reports New I-30 Frontage Roads Open Along Key Corridor
Two new I-30 frontage roads opened in Rockwall County in February and March, giving drivers their first direct relief along the FM 740 corridor.

Two stretches of new Interstate 30 frontage road opened in Rockwall County within weeks of each other this spring, marking the most tangible progress yet for commuters who have navigated construction along the corridor for years.
The eastbound frontage road from FM 740 to State Highway 205 opened February 24, followed by the westbound frontage road from FM 740 to Horizon on March 9. Rockwall County posted the update to its official News Flash on March 18, directing motorists to documents from Innovative Transportation Solutions (ITS) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) covering two corridor segments: Dalrock Road to SH 205, and SH 205 to the county line.
The project's roots stretch back to at least early 2022, when the City of Garland's transportation newsletter described TxDOT working on an I-30 expansion "from Bass Pro Drive to Dalrock Road," with the stated purpose of widening main lanes and adding frontage roads to relieve congestion. At that point, Segment 1 had begun and Segments 2 and 3 were estimated to break ground in late 2022.
Construction on the corridor is not finished. The county's March 18 post listed planned lane closures on Interstate 30 as a current related item, though specific dates, times, and lanes affected were not detailed in the county's public announcement. Motorists seeking real-time updates can track changes through the Infrastructure Consortium Information page linked from the Rockwall County website, which aggregates ITS and TxDOT documents as they are released.
No overall project completion date has been announced publicly.
