Bath City Council Votes to Sell Fisher Court Segment to BIW for Parking
Bath's city council voted unanimously to sell a segment of Fisher Court to Bath Iron Works, clearing the way for expanded employee parking near the Washington Street shipyard.

The Bath City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to discontinue a short segment of Fisher Court and sell it to Bath Iron Works, giving the shipyard room to expand parking for its workforce.
Fisher Court is a small street connecting to Washington Street adjacent to the BIW shipyard complex in Bath. The discontinued portion sits close enough to BIW's existing footprint that the company identified it as a practical solution to employee parking needs. The council's unanimous vote signals broad agreement among city officials that the sale serves both the company's operational interests and the city's relationship with its largest employer.

Bath Iron Works has long been the economic anchor of the region, employing thousands of workers at the Washington Street yard. Parking and worker access have been persistent logistical concerns for a shipyard that operates around the clock across multiple shifts. Absorbing the Fisher Court segment into BIW property would allow the company to formalize and potentially expand the amount of vehicle space available to its workforce near the yard's entrance.
The council approved the measure on March 11. No opposition was recorded, and the vote proceeded without dissent.
The transaction reflects the city's continued interest in accommodating BIW's infrastructure needs as the shipyard remains central to Bath's economic identity and to Maine's defense contracting base.
