Bowdoinham announces June and July town office closures and schedule changes

Bowdoinham is putting a tight clock on town errands in late June, with the Town Office and Recycling set to close at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 18 for Staff Appreciation and all town departments closed Friday, June 19 for Juneteenth. Residents who need permits, clerk business, payments, or recycling access need to move those visits ahead of the early close or wait until the town reopens.

The June and July office schedule gives a fuller picture of the disruption. The town listed Wednesday, June 10 as an abbreviated opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for town meeting set-up, then June 18 for the staff appreciation closure, June 19 for the Juneteenth holiday, Tuesday, June 30 as closed for year-end processing, and Friday, July 3 as closed for the Fourth of July holiday. The same dates were repeated in the Town Manager’s Office report for May 26, showing the closures were part of Bowdoinham’s broader municipal calendar, not a one-off notice.

For households that rely on the town for day-to-day business, the timing matters. A resident who needs a town office transaction, a service update, or help with a clerk’s office matter has to plan around the June 18 half-day and the full-day June 19 closure. Anyone trying to line up paperwork before the June 30 year-end processing shutdown or the July 3 Independence Day closure will need to make the trip before those dates or hold it until the office resumes normal hours.

The town’s Solid Waste and Recycling page adds another practical layer. Bowdoinham says trash pickup is normally on Thursdays, trash tags cost $3.00 each, and when Thursday is a federal holiday, pickup shifts to the following Saturday. In a town where recycling access and trash service are tied closely to the municipal schedule, even a short closure can change when residents can take care of ordinary household business.

Bowdoinham has also closed the Town Office for Juneteenth before, including a separate notice saying the office was closed all day in honor of the holiday. This year’s calendar continues that pattern while also stacking in staff appreciation, year-end processing, and the Independence Day break, leaving June and early July with several windows when residents will need to plan ahead.
