Brunswick officials this month moved to ease winter congestion near Kate Furbish Elementary by putting new parking restrictions in place on Jordan Avenue beginning Jan. 5. The change is part of a broader winter operations update that also introduced a townwide parking-ban map and clarified winter parking-ban procedures to help plow crews, emergency vehicles and school drop-off traffic navigate narrower roads.

At the same time the town adjusted operations at the Graham Road Processing Facility, expanding hours to handle seasonal yard waste and debris. Christmas tree disposal ran Jan. 5–9 for curbside pickup and residents were also able to bring trees to the Graham Road site. The timing of those services follows the heavy holiday season and aims to clear yards and rights-of-way ahead of ongoing winter weather.

Residents were reminded about holiday office hours and make-up schedules for trash and recycling collection after the holidays. The town reiterated that regular pickup routes may shift when weather forces changes, and that makeup days are scheduled to keep collections on track. The assessor and clerk’s offices issued routine reminders about dog licensing as part of their January administrative updates, and the town listed several board and committee vacancies alongside municipal job openings.

Cultural programming and community events also featured in the month’s municipal bulletin. The Frank J. Wood Bridge Remembrance art show opened at the Curtis Memorial Library with a reception on Jan. 9, giving residents an opportunity to reflect on local landmarks through art. The town highlighted an upcoming Sustainable Brunswick lecture on winter preparation and road salt use, connecting local winter maintenance choices with broader discussions about infrastructure, public safety and environmental stewardship.

Town communications included a highlight video of the recent tree lighting and links to resources for residents navigating the new parking rules and winter procedures. For households with school drop-offs along Jordan Avenue, the new restrictions are intended to reduce double parking and create a safer route for children entering the school.

What this means for Sagadahoc County residents is practical: check the new winter parking-ban map before leaving your car overnight, plan to have Christmas trees at the curb or dropped at Graham Road during designated pickup windows, and expect altered trash and recycling schedules after holidays or storms. Keep dog licenses current and consider volunteering for a local board if you want a say in winter policy.

Our two cents? Clear sidewalks and patience at drop-off go a long way, follow the new parking rules, tie up your tree branches for easier pickup, and think of salt use as both a safety choice and a community conversation.
