A townwide parking ban is in effect in Brunswick to clear heavy snowfall from public roads and municipal lots, and to keep plows moving on primary routes. The restriction, declared by Brunswick Public Works, began at 4:00 PM Sunday, January 25 and runs through 7:00 AM Tuesday, January 27 to facilitate snow clean-up and removal.

The ban covers the Recreation Center and all public roads except those inside the Downtown Yellow Zone. The Downtown Yellow Zone has two limited windows when parking is allowed during normal business hours on Monday. Parking in the Downtown Yellow Zone and all municipal lots within it is prohibited from 9:00 PM Sunday, January 25 until 7:00 AM Monday, January 26, and again from 10:00 PM Monday, January 26 until 7:00 AM Tuesday, January 27.

Public Works said primary roadways will be the priority during the height of the storm, and crews will be spread out to cover a very long-duration event. Sidewalks are lower on the immediate priority list and will likely take a couple of days after the storm to be fully cleared, meaning downtown walkways and neighborhood paths may remain snow-packed into the week.

Because plows will have a hard time keeping up with the rate of snowfall, officials warned the town will likely impose another overnight parking ban later this week to facilitate cleanup of Maine Street, Station Avenue and other streets. Motorists should expect changes and stay alert for new notices from Brunswick Public Works.

For residents and business owners, the measures mean a tightened parking shuffle through the business district and limited access to municipal lots at key overnight hours. Vehicles left on public roads or in municipal lots during ban windows could interfere with plowing operations and slow recovery of main thoroughfares used by emergency services, delivery vehicles and commuters. The Recreation Center lot is included in the townwide prohibition, so people using town facilities should make alternate arrangements.

Brunswick residents can find additional information and any updated parking instructions at brunswickme.gov/272/Winter-Services. Expect continued messaging from Public Works about possible additional bans and the timetable for sidewalk clearing as crews work through snow removal priorities.
