Brunswick Police Officer Nathan Day Charged With Assault by State Prosecutors
State prosecutors filed an assault charge against Brunswick officer Nathan Day at 1 p.m. Monday, stemming from an incident in December 2025.

The Maine Attorney General's Office filed an assault charge against Brunswick police officer Nathan Day at 1 p.m. Monday, March 16, in West Bath, state prosecutors confirmed. The charge connects to an incident that occurred in December 2025, around the same time Day was placed on administrative leave from the Brunswick Police Department.
Day joined the department on May 23, 2022, according to a post on the Brunswick Police Department's Facebook page. The specific nature of the alleged assault, the degree of the charge, and details about any alleged victim have not yet been made public.
Attempts to obtain the charging documents at the West Bath courthouse were unsuccessful Monday; court staff indicated the records were not yet available. The statutory classification of the charge, whether misdemeanor or felony, has not been confirmed in publicly available filings.
Brunswick Police Chief Scott Stewart, who had been asked about the case before the charge was formally filed, declined to speak to the specifics of an active personnel matter but offered a statement addressing the broader principle at stake. "As police officers, we have a duty to hold ourselves accountable and to high standards. However, we are still afforded the same due process as everyone else," Stewart said. Comment from Stewart had also been requested Monday following the formal filing by state prosecutors.
The involvement of the Maine Attorney General's Office, rather than a local or county prosecutor, signals that the charge was brought at the state level. No arraignment date or bail conditions have been made public, and neither Day nor any attorney representing him has offered a response.
