Former UMaine Football Player, Bowdoin Dean Arrested on Gross Sexual Assault Charge
Roosevelt Boone, 37, former Bowdoin dean, arrested in Florida on a Class A gross sexual assault charge tied to a 2024 Maine incident. Federal marshals assisted.
Roosevelt Boone, 37, a former University of Maine running back and Bowdoin College dean, was arrested in Bradenton, Florida on Tuesday, March 31 on a Class A warrant for gross sexual assault, Maine's most serious criminal classification, punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Brunswick Police Chief Scott Stewart announced the arrest following what he described as an "extensive investigation" into an incident alleged to have occurred in Maine in 2024. The Brunswick Police Department coordinated with the United States Marshals Service and the Maine Violent Offender Task Force to take Boone into custody at IMG Academy, the Florida preparatory boarding school where he worked as enrollment manager. Boone is now held at Manatee County Jail as a fugitive from justice pending extradition to Maine, where criminal proceedings will continue.
Boone played running back at UMaine from 2007 to 2011 and later joined the program's coaching staff as a running backs coach before moving into a recruiting role in 2016. He served as an associate dean at Colby College in Waterville from 2021 to 2022, then as a dean at Bowdoin College in Brunswick from 2022 to 2024. He is also co-founder of Strong Mind-Strong Body Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit serving underprivileged youth.
Stewart confirmed the alleged 2024 incident did not occur on Bowdoin's campus. A college spokesperson declined to comment on the arrest. No responses were received from Colby, IMG Academy or Strong Mind-Strong Body by Wednesday evening. Extradition and initial court proceedings in Maine are the next legal steps to watch as the case moves forward.
