Nanslaf23 has been elected chair of the Sagadahoc County Republican Committee, a post that puts one of the county’s most active political organizations back in the middle of the fight for local and county power in Bath, Topsham and the surrounding towns.

Her husband, a Maine beekeeper and veteran, announced the election and said her community involvement was a major part of why she won the job. The move gives the county GOP a new face at a time when party leaders are trying to recruit candidates, train volunteers and sharpen their message before the next round of county and municipal races.

The committee says its mission is to recruit, train, elect and support Republican candidates in Sagadahoc County and across Maine and the United States. Its public mailing address is 52 Roman Rd. in Topsham, underscoring how much of the party’s local operation runs through that town.

A Maine Republican Party resources page currently lists Brian Roy as chair, Brandon McBride as vice chair, Wendy Wright as secretary and Craig Caffrey as treasurer, reflecting the committee’s existing public leadership structure. The shift to Nanslaf23 signals a change in local leadership at a moment when the county party is already working on organizing, voter guidance and redistricting outreach.

That work matters in Sagadahoc County because Republican candidates have struggled to break through in recent contests. In the 2024 general election, Democrat Denise Tepler of Topsham won the county’s Maine Senate seat, according to unofficial results reported by the Portland Press Herald. For Republicans, that made turnout, candidate recruitment and local messaging even more important in a county where Democrats have held key seats.

The county party has already used Topsham as an organizing hub. A Sagadahoc County Republicans caucus was held Feb. 3, 2024, at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham from 9 a.m. to noon, with registration ending at 9:30 a.m. and attendance limited to registered Republicans. Speakers at that gathering included Andrew Piantidosi, then a First Congressional District candidate, and Maine GOP Vice Chairperson Samuel Bridges.

The Maine GOP has also hosted a candidate-training event called Candidate Survival School - Sagadahoc County, suggesting the new chair will inherit an organization focused not just on elections, but on building a bench for future races. In Sagadahoc, where local taxes, school spending and public safety often shape municipal politics, the party’s next leader will be judged on whether she can turn that structure into votes.
