Alamosa boys, Farmington girls win Clash at Coliseum titles
Alamosa captured the boys team title and Farmington took the girls crown at the Clash at the Coliseum on Jan. 17, giving local programs momentum early in the season.
Alamosa High School took the boys team crown and Farmington High School claimed the girls title Saturday as the Clash at the Coliseum wrapped up at McGee Park. The dual meet and individual brackets produced decisive finishes that set early-season storylines for area programs and wrestlers.
The boys race came down to a tight dual between Alamosa and Aztec, with Alamosa edging Aztec 41-29. Late pins in the final matches sealed the outcome and underscored Alamosa’s strength in the closing rounds. Jeremiah DeLaCerda of Alamosa dominated the 106-pound bracket, finishing 10-0 to claim the weight-class crown and provide a statistical anchor for his squad’s title run.
On the girls side, Farmington scored 205.5 points to finish first among competing teams, with Bloomfield second at 180 points. Bloomfield produced standout moments despite finishing second overall: Amaya Williamson rallied for a pin at 120 pounds, turning an uphill match into a match-clinching victory, and Caylee Miller extended an undefeated streak with a pin at 235 pounds. Wrestlers from Kirtland Central, Piedra Vista, Aztec, Bloomfield and Farmington also posted notable individual performances across multiple weights, highlighting depth across the regional field.
For San Juan County, Farmington’s girls team title is a visible marker of the growth of girls wrestling locally and regionally. The points total of 205.5 illustrates a program with multiple scoring placers rather than relying on a single standout, a configuration that bodes well for consistency through league and postseason competition. Alamosa’s boys title, propelled by dominant individual runs such as DeLaCerda’s unblemished record, gives the Colorado program momentum while providing a benchmark for area teams to target.

Beyond school pride, the tournament underscores McGee Park’s role as a regional event center. Regional tournaments bring visiting teams and families to the area, creating recurring demand for local services and reinforcing the value of investing in athletic facilities and coaching staff. For coaches and athletic directors, strong early-season performances can translate into heightened community support and influence scheduling, seeding and preparation strategies as teams approach district and state qualifying events.
As the regular season progresses, teams will look to convert this momentum into league wins and postseason seeding. For San Juan County wrestlers and supporters, the Clash at the Coliseum provided both a snapshot of current strengths and a preview of the rematches and rivalries that will define the months ahead.
