Kamora Henry powers Aztec past Gallup, Tigers stay unbeaten in district
Kamora Henry struck out 10 and allowed one hit as Aztec beat Gallup 8-1 at Tiger Sports Complex. The win kept the Tigers unbeaten and tied atop District 1-4A.

Kamora Henry gave Aztec High exactly the kind of performance that changes a district race. The senior threw a complete-game one-hitter with 10 strikeouts Friday night at Tiger Sports Complex, leading the Tigers past Gallup 8-1 and keeping Aztec unbeaten in District 1-4A.
Henry was in command from the opening pitch, allowing only one walk and finishing the game by striking out the side in the seventh inning. The victory mattered well beyond one line in the standings: Aztec entered the game tied atop the District 1-4A race, and the result helped the Tigers hold that position as the district schedule moved into its most decisive stretch.
The matchup also carried clear historical weight. Gallup swept Aztec in 2023 to clinch a fourth straight District 1-4A title, then beat the Tigers again in district play in 2024 by an 18-0 score. Friday’s game showed Aztec answering that recent run of dominance with a decisive performance at home in Aztec, New Mexico.
The broader district picture made the win even more meaningful. MaxPreps listed Aztec at 12-4 overall and 5-0 in district after the mid-April stretch, while Gallup was 11-8 overall and also 5-0 in district. With both programs carrying strong records and the title race still unsettled, every district game has become a direct test of playoff positioning.
Aztec still has key games ahead that could decide whether the Tigers enter the postseason as a true contender. Gallup was still on the schedule again for April 28, and Kirtland Central also remained part of the district stretch. For Aztec, those games will help determine whether Henry’s outing Friday becomes a turning point or just one more step in a district run that is still being written.
A Tri-City Record profile previously noted that Henry led Aztec to a District 1-4A title and an overall 19-13 record in an earlier standout season. This spring, the senior has again become the most recognizable name in the Tigers’ push, and Friday’s complete-game effort showed how much of Aztec’s formula still runs through her arm.
