Kirtland Central’s girls and Farmington High’s boys left Riverview Golf Course with the top team trophies from the Aztec Varsity Spring Invitational, a result that offered an early look at where several San Juan County programs stood heading into the stretch run of the spring season.

Kirtland Central won the girls team title with a 352, and sophomore Dallas Dan led the way by taking the individual crown with an 80. The Broncos showed real depth behind her. Makayla Manus tied for third at 82, and Hayden Dan placed fifth with an 84, giving Kirtland three golfers in the top five and a team profile built on balance rather than one standout round. That mattered for a program that finished second at the Class 4A state championship in 2025, its best championship result since winning the Class A-3A title in 2000.

On the boys side, Farmington High won the team race with a 327, holding off Aztec and Miyamura, which tied for second at 331. The Scorpions’ margin was just four shots, the kind of finish that usually gets sharpened by match-play pressure and postseason expectations. Piedra Vista sophomore Burke Allen shot the low round of the day with a 70, while Farmington’s Lincoln Blue Eyes finished second with a 74, making the individual leaderboard as competitive as the team standings.

The setting only added to the significance. Riverview Golf Course in Kirtland is scheduled to host New Mexico Activities Association state high school golf championships in 2025 and 2026, alongside San Juan Country Club and Pinon Hills Golf Course. The association said those sites were selected for their challenging layouts and first-class facilities, which makes every competitive round at Riverview a useful preview of what local teams will see when championship pressure arrives.

The Aztec tournament also came with timing that fit the calendar. Area teams were heading next to Pinon Hills for the Farmington Varsity Invite, so Monday’s results doubled as both a confidence boost and a measuring stick. For Kirtland Central, the girls’ win reinforced a season in which the Broncos have already shown they can contend well beyond the county line. For Farmington High, the narrow boys victory suggested the Scorpions can close out tight tournaments against familiar rivals from Aztec, Miyamura and Piedra Vista.
