Jayden Narciso is finishing high school and college at the same time. By May, the San Juan College High School dual-credit student will hold both a high school diploma and an Associate of Science degree in Pre-Health Sciences, and now he can add a national scholarship to that list: Narciso was named New Mexico's 2026 New Century Transfer Scholar, earning a $2,750 award.

San Juan College announced the honor on March 10. Narciso was selected from a nationwide pool of more than 2,300 nominees representing students at nearly 1,400 college campuses across the country. Only one transfer scholar is chosen from each state, making him New Mexico's sole recipient this year.

The New Century Transfer Scholar program, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, The Coca-Cola Foundation, and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, recognizes two-year college students for academic accomplishments, leadership and activities, and for extending their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. San Juan College noted that Narciso's achievement marks a significant milestone for both the student and the institution, with opportunities at San Juan College described as instrumental in his success.

Narciso plans to continue his education at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.

Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, President and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa, praised the recognition in a statement. "We congratulate Jayden for receiving this prestigious scholarship, and we are honored to partner with the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and the Coca-Cola Foundation to recognize these outstanding achievements," Tincher-Ladner said. "Scholarship programs like this are integral for creating opportunities for two-year college students to succeed and for putting college completion within reach."

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation supports more than 1,400 college students each year, awarding $3.55 million in scholarships annually through three nationally recognized programs.
