San Juan College marks Community College Month, highlights student support
San Juan College used #CCMonth to spotlight more than 130 programs, open admissions and support services that help San Juan County students stay enrolled.

San Juan College used April 17 to tie a national campaign to a local point: the college says its mix of low-cost access, financial aid and wraparound support is built to keep San Juan County students moving toward a degree, a certificate or a job.
By joining Community College Month, or #CCMonth, a campaign led by the Association of Community College Trustees, the Farmington college said it wanted to show how community colleges serve as a first step for students who need a reachable path into higher education. San Juan College says it offers more than 130 two-year degree and certificate programs, and its April 17 message described more than 140 options spanning healthcare, skilled trades, business and technology.
The college also pointed to admissions policies that keep the door open. Its admissions process has no deadline and uses a rolling timeline, while the catalog says San Juan College has an open-door policy for students who graduated from an accredited high school, earned a GED or qualify through age and experience as a non-high school graduate. That approach fits the college’s broader pitch that community college is designed around accessibility as much as academics.
Affordability remains a major part of that message. San Juan College says 94% of first-time freshmen receive financial aid, a figure that helps explain why community colleges continue to matter in a county where students may be balancing work, family and school costs at the same time. The college’s education and training pages say its programs are meant to prepare students either for direct entry into the workforce or for transfer to a four-year institution.
The support services are part of the same strategy. The San Juan College Student Resource Center says it connects students to New Student Orientation, food assistance, housing resources, childcare, textbooks and more. Food for Thought, the college’s emergency food program, provides food bags, meal vouchers, fresh produce and healthy recipes. Childcare and Family Services says it offers family-friendly support so students can pursue educational and career goals while focusing on their children.
San Juan College also pointed to its Center for Workforce Development, which provides outcome-driven professional development training across industries and supports in-demand certifications and leadership training. The college said it will use social media throughout April to highlight student success stories, a reminder that its #CCMonth message is aimed less at celebration than at the daily realities of getting through school, building skills and landing work in San Juan County.
