Farmington entrepreneurs had a free two-hour window Tuesday to tighten a business idea at San Juan College Quality Center for Business, where San Juan Tech SPRINT brought mentorship, strategic advising and networking to 5101 College Blvd.

The session ran from 10 a.m. to noon and was part of a weekly series set for every Tuesday from May 19 through June 16. Organizers described the program as entrepreneurial business development support, with personalized resources, assistance and connections to business experts in a range of fields.

The payoff was practical. The program through San Juan College’s Enterprise Center and Small Business Development Center network centered on the Business Model Canvas, a framework aimed at helping founders map out how a company creates value, reaches customers and grows. For people trying to move from a side hustle to a formal business, or for owners who needed a clearer pitch before seeking financing, the session offered a fast way to stress-test the basics before mistakes got expensive.

That made the event especially relevant for early-stage startups and homegrown services that often have the strongest ideas but the least structure behind them. A maker selling online, a contractor trying to turn referral work into something scalable, or a food-based business building from weekend sales could walk out with sharper next steps, a better sense of what gaps still needed filling and contacts who could help with the next stage. The emphasis on expert mentorship and strategic advising also gave participants a chance to compare their plans against real-world business experience instead of guessing.

The Farmington Small Business Development Center is based at the same Quality Center for Business location and lists appointments as encouraged during its Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. office hours. For the Tech SPRINT series, the community calendar listed contact information at (505) 566-3700 and enterprisecenter@sanjuancollege.edu.

For San Juan County founders, the value was hard to miss: a free, local chance to leave with a more funding-ready plan, a faster path to launch and fewer early-stage missteps, all before the monthlong series ended on June 16.
