Pretty Pooch & Kitty Too! Celebrates the Certified Team Behind Its Farmington Grooming Salon
The San Juan County business has grown from one animal lover’s vision into a professional grooming salon built on education, care, and pride in its team

Pretty Pooch & Kitty Too! began with a simple belief: animals deserve patient, professional care from people who truly understand them.
For the owner of the Farmington grooming salon, that belief started long before the business opened its doors. She has spent her life loving, working with, and advocating for animals. In the early 2000s, an opportunity to begin grooming under the guidance of an experienced professional opened a new path. It introduced her to people across the grooming industry and showed her what the profession could become when skill, compassion, and high standards were taken seriously.
After spending time in a corporate salon, she also saw parts of the industry that did not match the kind of care she believed animals deserved. For someone who saw herself first as an animal advocate, the answer was not to complain from the outside. It was to build something better.

She purchased her business license in 2007, began grooming on the side, and opened a physical salon in 2008. From there, Pretty Pooch & Kitty Too! grew into a local grooming business with a clear identity: professional work, continued education, and a team that treats grooming as both a craft and a responsibility.
Today, the salon is known not only for serving dogs and cats in the Farmington area, but also for the training and certification behind its staff. The groomers at Pretty Pooch & Kitty Too! are certified through International Professional Groomers, one of the recognized professional organizations in the grooming industry. The salon’s bather is also certified through IPG as a bather.

That matters because grooming is not only about appearance. It is about safety, skin and coat health, animal comfort, proper handling, and understanding each pet as an individual. As tools, techniques, products, and expectations change, professional groomers have to keep learning. At Pretty Pooch & Kitty Too!, that continued education has become part of the salon’s culture.
The owner has also continued building her own credentials over the years, completing the work and testing to become a Master Groomer, certifier, trainer, training facility, esthetician, and scissor brand ambassador. In 2026, the salon’s team is still learning, still competing, and still placing in grooming competitions.

For the owner, that success is not hers alone. One of the main reasons she wanted to share the story of Pretty Pooch & Kitty Too! was to recognize the people who helped build it.
Behind every finished groom is a team doing the careful work that clients do not always see. Bathing, drying, brushing, coat preparation, handling, safety checks, and calming nervous pets are all part of the process. The final haircut may get the photo, but the preparation is what makes the result possible.

That is why her advice to groomers is simple: “Prep work makes the grooms work.”
It is also a reminder of what separates professional grooming from a quick trim. The best results come from patience before the scissors ever come out. They come from education, teamwork, and respect for the animal on the table.
Pretty Pooch & Kitty Too! has now spent nearly two decades growing in San Juan County. What started as one animal advocate’s decision to create a better grooming environment has become a salon shaped by certified professionals, hands on experience, and a team that continues to push itself.
For local pet owners, the business offers more than a grooming appointment. It offers a place built by people who chose this work because they care about animals, and who continue to treat that care as something worth improving every year.
