Farmington High girls wrapped up their regular season Friday night, dismantling crosstown rival Piedra Vista and clinching the top seed in the District 1-5A tournament, which opens Monday night. With the regular season winding down, San Juan County high-school basketball programs entered a packed week dominated by district-tournament matchups, previews and preparation notes.
"With three girls basketball from San Juan County teams occupying the top spot in the latest MaxPreps rankings, all eyes will be focused on action at Scorpion Arena as well as Bronco Arena and possibly Shiprock High School for championship games in district tournaments." That expectation frames a week of district play across multiple sites named in local schedules, including Scorpion Arena, Bronco Arena and possibly Shiprock High School for championship games.
Monday's slate lists 1-5A girls matchups Cibola at Volcano Vista at 6 p.m. and Piedra Vista at Cleveland at 6 p.m., plus 1-4A girls Miyamura at Aztec at 6 p.m. and Bloomfield at Shiprock at 6 p.m. The Monday schedule also includes 1-3A girls games Thoreau at Zuni at 6 p.m. and Wingate at Tohatchi at 6 p.m.
Tuesday entries in the schedule show District 1-3A listings with TBA at Crownpoint at 6 p.m. and TBA at Newcomb at 6 p.m., reflecting unfinished bracket or site assignments. Wednesday's schedule lists District 1-5A TBA at Rio Rancho at 6 p.m., District 1-4A TBA at Gallup at 6 p.m., District 1-4A TBA at Kirtland Central at 6 p.m., and a District 1-3A matchup and site listed as TBA.
