Senior prank leaves Piedra Vista High School vandalized in Farmington
About 60 people broke into Piedra Vista High at midnight, leaving eggs, spray paint and toilet paper for crews to clean before classes resumed.

About 60 people slipped into Piedra Vista High School at midnight and vandalized the Farmington campus with broken eggs, spray paint and toilet paper, forcing staff into a morning cleanup before students returned to class.
Farmington Municipal Schools spokesman Robert Taboada described the break-in as a “senior prank,” but district and police officials are treating the aftermath as a law-enforcement matter. Farmington Police spokeswoman Shanice Gonzales said the school’s armed security guard is investigating. The guard is employed by Farmington Municipal Schools, commissioned by the Farmington Police Department and answers to FPD’s school resource officer sergeant. Gonzales said the guard may work with the San Juan County District Attorney’s Office to file criminal charges against those involved.
Officials did not release a cost estimate for the damage or explain how so many people got inside Piedra Vista High School, which sits at 5700 College Boulevard and has been part of Farmington since 1998. Taboada said operations staff began cleaning up right away and that classes proceeded as scheduled, limiting the disruption but leaving the district with the burden of repairing the damage and sorting out accountability.

The incident landed at a moment when school operations and campus security remain closely watched in Farmington. Farmington Municipal Schools reported an 82.28% four-year graduation rate for the Class of 2025, above New Mexico’s statewide rate of 80.6%. At a school with a long history in one of the city’s busiest corridors, district officials said they would keep students and staff updated as more information becomes available.
