Harlem Globetrotters Bring Centennial Tour to Rio Rancho Events Center
Spice Sidney hit an overtime game-winner as the Globetrotters returned to Rio Rancho for the first time since February 2025, capping a centennial night at RREC.

Eryka "Spice" Sidney's overtime game-winner gave the Harlem Globetrotters another victory over the Washington Generals at the Rio Rancho Events Center on Thursday, capping a centennial celebration that kept fans on their feet well past the final buzzer.
The April 2 show was the Globetrotters' first stop in the City of Vision since February 2025, part of the organization's "100 Years of Thrills" world tour. The team debuted new 100 Year jerseys and wove a series of "Golden Moment" segments throughout the night, each honoring a milestone from the franchise's century of history, including a tribute to the Globetrotters' landmark 1948 victory over the then-world champion Minnesota Lakers.
The Generals, who carry a record of roughly three wins against more than 1,600 losses all-time against Harlem, looked briefly competitive in the first quarter before falling behind 39-33. Forward "Sweet Lou II" Dunbar drove much of the first-half offense, mixing legitimate scoring with equal-parts mischief: stealing popcorn from the stands, faking injuries to antagonize the referee, and loudly cataloging the official's physical shortcomings. Three-pointers and alley oops from Sunshine West, Dragon Gilmore and Big Dog Whitsett widened the lead to 68-55 by halftime.
Rookie "Rim Reaper" Crawford took over the keys in the second half but couldn't protect the advantage, and the Generals pulled close enough to force overtime. Before the extra period, the team staged their final Golden Moment of the night, reflecting on their history of winning in style. Sidney then delivered, hitting the last-second shot that sent the crowd home happy.

Halftime doubled as a community event in its own right. Fans competed in a shooting contest on the floor and posed with team mascot Globie, who was joined by Billy the Goat, the mascot of the New Mexico Goatheads, in a cross-sport moment that drew particular energy from younger sections of the arena.
The current Globetrotters roster holds more than 60 Guinness World Records, 18 of them set in the past year alone, the most set in a single year by any team in any sport. The centennial tour marks the first time the franchise has taken the court in its new-look 100 Year jerseys, designed to honor a century of global reach that stretches from the Chicago South Side to arenas on six continents.
For the Rio Rancho Events Center, which has hosted everything from the NMAA Basketball State Championship to national touring acts this spring, Thursday's packed house reinforced the venue's position as a regional anchor capable of attracting major touring productions to Sandoval County.
