Placitas RanchFest is moving from a local gathering to a countywide economic marker. The June 20 return at Elk Ridge Ranch in Placitas has been designated the flagship event of New Mexico RanchFest, with organizers projecting more than 1,000 attendees and 60 curated vendors at the 7-acre ranch on State Route 165.

The scale matters in dollars as much as in attendance. Admission is listed at $5 and parking at $15 for the 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. event, adding a paid-entry layer to a festival that is also selling vendor space, food offerings and ranch experiences. The first Placitas RanchFest, held June 21, 2025, drew more than 1,200 people, a turnout that helped turn a one-day rural event into something with statewide visibility.

This year’s edition is being pushed as more than a repeat. Promotional material says most vendor spaces for 2026 have already been reserved or sold, and the planned mix includes live music from New Mexico artists, local artisans, regional food and beverage offerings, ranch tours and animal experiences. That combination gives Placitas vendors a larger audience and gives ranch-themed tourism a clearer commercial identity in the Sandia foothills.

Elk Ridge Ranch itself is part of the draw. Founded by Dale and Sue Spencer in 2022, the property offers elk and bison viewing, a pond, RV camping and family attractions. That setting gives the festival a built-in attraction that can keep visitors on-site longer and widen the spending potential for artisans, food vendors and other small businesses tied to the event.

The broader local impact could reach beyond the ranch gate. Placitas already has an established arts-and-events culture, including the Placitas Artists Series, now in its 39th season, and recurring community programming that has helped make the village a destination for people looking for music, visual arts and outdoor gatherings. A larger RanchFest adds another reason for visitors to come north of Albuquerque, where the benefits can extend to nearby restaurants, lodging and agricultural producers that depend on foot traffic and regional attention.

For Sandoval County, the flagship label signals that Placitas RanchFest is becoming more than a seasonal festival. It is now part of the community’s economic identity, where ranching heritage, local craft, food sales and tourism all meet in a single June date.
