A walk-through, life-sized inflatable colon will be set up at the front entrance of Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital on Tuesday, March 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., giving Seminole County residents a literally gut-level look at colorectal disease during Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

The exhibit, organized jointly by the Orlando Health Cancer Institute, Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Institute and Orlando Health Digestive Institute, allows visitors to walk inside the structure and view displays of hemorrhoids, polyps and colon cancer alongside examples of healthy tissue. Guests will also have the opportunity to schedule a colonoscopy on site. Free prizes, snacks and games will be available during the two-hour window.

The Lake Mary stop is part of a broader campaign running at several Orlando Health hospitals from March 5 through March 30, with each location hosting the exhibit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The statistic driving the campaign is stark: according to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men and women in the United States. Current guidelines call for screening to begin at age 45.

This is not the first time Orlando Health has brought the inflatable exhibit to Lake Mary. The same three institutes staged a Colon Cancer Awareness Month appearance at Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, drawing patients, visitors and Orlando Health staff for a close look at what the disease can do to colon tissue.

More information on the Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Institute is available through Orlando Health's website.
