Sanford City Council Sets April 7 Meeting, Public Comment Welcome
With the first piece of Sanford's $4.2M Central Green now open at 157 Charlotte Ave., residents have until 4:50 p.m. Tuesday to sign up and speak at the city's April 7 council meeting.
The Pilgrim's Sanford Agricultural Marketplace opened its doors at 157 Charlotte Avenue thirteen days ago, the first built marker of the city's $4.2 million commitment to affordable housing and downtown transformation, a plan centered on Sanford Central Green, the proposed community greenway that would connect east Sanford to the downtown core along the Weatherspoon Street corridor. Tuesday's April 7 City Council meeting, starting at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Sanford Municipal Center, is the next opportunity for residents to weigh in on how that plan takes shape.
Speaking requires registering with City Clerk Bonnie Davis by 4:50 p.m., a full ten minutes before the gavel drops. Each registered speaker gets three minutes at the podium. Public comment closes when registered speakers are finished or 30 minutes have elapsed, whichever comes first, so arriving close to 5 p.m. risks missing the queue entirely. Residents who prefer to submit written input rather than appear in person can contact the City Clerk's Office before the session.
The April 7 agenda opens with proclamations honoring Local News Day, Community Development Week, and Fair Housing Month. From there, the council proceeds through its standard format: a consent agenda of routine approvals, staff briefings, and any pending ordinances or contract votes. The full agenda packet is available on the city's online agenda portal before Tuesday's session.

The meeting takes place inside a building that is itself central to Sanford's redevelopment plans. The Municipal Center campus expansion, overseen by Edifice, carries a 17-month construction timeline and targets April 2027 for completion. The expanded campus is designed to add public community amenities and connect directly to the Central Green greenway, tying the city's administrative hub to the broader downtown revitalization the council has been advancing since that $4.2 million commitment.
Residents unable to attend in person can watch on the city's YouTube channel, which livestreams and archives each session. The Sanford Municipal Center is at 225 E. Weatherspoon Street.
