Sanford City Hall to Host Golf Cart Registration and Renewals Feb. 1
Golf cart registration and renewals will be available at Sanford city hall Feb. 1; bring ID and the cart for inspection to get a sticker and avoid enforcement fines.

Golf cart owners in Sanford will be able to have vehicles inspected, registered and receive stickers on the spot at a City Hall event on Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The session at 300 N. Park Ave. is intended to streamline compliance with local rules and help owners prepare before registration enforcement begins.
The registration fee is $25 for both new and renewal applications. City guidance notes that new registrants must bring a valid driver’s license and the golf cart itself for inspection, while those renewing should have their registration number ready. The City’s event will accept cash, checks and money orders; credit cards and digital payments will not be accepted at the table. Organizers advise anyone who wishes to pay by credit card to make that payment at the Utilities Department in City Hall before Feb. 1 and bring proof of payment to the event.
Sanford Police will also host a separate, annual Golf Cart Registration Event on Feb. 8 from noon to 6 p.m. at 401 E. Seminole Blvd., offering another chance for owners to meet inspection and registration requirements. The police event emphasizes compliance with Sanford’s Golf Cart Ordinance, including proper lighting and signage on streets designated as the Golf Cart Zone.
Officials stress the safety and regulatory purpose of the events. "Officials verify that golf carts meet safety standards, owners understand operational guidelines, and community safety is maintained," Hernandez said, describing the goal of the registration effort. Organizers add that "residents can have their golf carts inspected and registered, and receive their stickers on the spot."
Enforcement of registration rules is scheduled to begin Feb. 9. Unregistered carts face escalating fines: $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second offense and $300 for a third offense. Owners who cannot attend either event can still register through City Hall beginning Feb. 1; those options are being presented to give residents multiple opportunities to comply before enforcement starts.
Practical steps for residents: bring a valid driver’s license and the cart for a first-time registration, or have the registration number available for renewals; allow time for inspection and sticker placement; and plan payment method in advance since on-site card payments are not accepted. For more information, contact the Sanford Police Department at (407) 688-5070 or visit City Hall’s Utilities Department for payment options and additional instructions.
These two events give Seminole County golf cart owners a clear path to meet local requirements and avoid fines. With limited payment options at the Feb. 1 event, planning ahead - especially for those who prefer to pay by card - will save time and ensure a smooth registration before enforcement begins.
