About 4,260 Stutsman County Homes Received Up to $1,600 Tax Credit
Tyler Perleberg says about 4,260 Stutsman County homes received the North Dakota Primary Residence Credit this year, cutting property bills by up to $1,600; applications opened Jan. 1 and are due April 1.

Tyler Perleberg, Stutsman County Director of Equalization, reported that about 4,260 residential homes in Stutsman County received the North Dakota Primary Residence Credit (PRC) for the current tax year, reducing property tax bills by as much as $1,600. Perleberg said recipients “could be eligible for the same credit this year,” creating a renewal opportunity for owners who meet program requirements.
Perleberg clarified application timing for the PRC, saying applications opened on Jan. 1 for the property taxes that will be due at the beginning of next year and that all applications must be submitted by April 1. The Jan. 1 opening applies to the Primary Residence Credit filings residents must complete to claim the credit against next year’s property tax obligations.
In addition to the PRC, Perleberg noted that applications are also open for the North Dakota Homestead Credit and for the Renters' Refund. Those programs, like the PRC, require timely applications in the current filing window - Jan. 1 through April 1 - if taxpayers want the credits or refunds applied to their upcoming property tax or rental-related accounts.
Local property owners who benefited this year should assess whether they meet renewal criteria, since Perleberg indicated they “could be eligible for the same credit this year.” Homeowners and renters in Stutsman County have until April 1 to submit paperwork to the county equalization office to pursue the PRC, Homestead Credit, or Renters' Refund for taxes due at the beginning of next year.
The scale of participation is notable for Stutsman County: roughly 4,260 residential parcels used the PRC this tax year and each received a credit of up to $1,600 on their property taxes, according to Perleberg. That figure represents the number of approved residential homes receiving the PRC in the county for this cycle.
Residents who have questions about eligibility or need forms should contact the Stutsman County Equalization office and plan to file before the April 1 deadline. Perleberg’s office is the county point of record for PRC, Homestead Credit, and Renters' Refund filings as the current Director of Equalization.
