Alsager Meats opens first Jamestown shop with local sourcing focus

Jamestown shoppers now have a new place to buy locally sourced meat close to downtown, and the opening of Alsager Meats at 909 7th Ave. SE added another specialty retail option to the city’s commercial mix. The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce helped mark the launch with a ribbon cutting, a clear sign that local business leaders viewed the shop as more than a ceremonial opening.

Alsager Meats says the Jamestown store is part of a larger ranch-to-table model built around the company’s family operation just outside Walcott, North Dakota. The business identifies itself as a fifth-generation ranching family and says it has grown to four locations and counting, with stores now in Jamestown, Fargo, Breckenridge, Minnesota, and Audubon, Minnesota. For Stutsman County shoppers, that means access to a meat market that sources beef from its own ranch and also works with local farmers to keep products within the tri-state area.

That sourcing model gives the shop a different role than a typical grocery counter. Alsager Meats says its meat comes from the family ranch in Walcott, about 30 miles from Fargo, and the company also promotes butcher bundles, gift cards and regularly changing specials. In practice, that puts the Jamestown location in position to draw customers who want a closer-to-home option for specialty cuts and everyday meat purchases while adding foot traffic to the 7th Avenue SE corridor.

The Jamestown opening also reflects a broader test of local demand. A business that already has established stores in Fargo and western Minnesota would not be adding a new North Dakota location without seeing room for growth, and the Chamber’s support suggests Jamestown’s retail market is still drawing outside investment. The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Business Directory already lists Alsager Meats as a specialty shop at the same address, tying the store into the local business community as it begins serving customers.

Alsager Meats’ website lists Jamestown hours as Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Jamestown phone number is still listed as TBD, but the storefront is already in place, and the company’s expansion into Jamestown points to continued confidence in a city where locally rooted retail still matters.
