High-Risk Sex Offender Registers New Address in Jamestown, Police Warn Residents
Robert Joseph McCormack, 30, now lives at the Buffalo Motel on 6th Avenue SW after a 2013 Gross Sexual Imposition conviction involving a 3-year-old.

The Jamestown Police Department has issued public notifications alerting residents to two high-risk registered sex offenders with new addresses in the city, including one man now living at the Buffalo Motel on 6th Avenue SW.
Robert Benjamin Bauer, 39, registered a Jamestown address as of March 11, 2026, according to a notice the department published through the Jamestown Sun. Police identified Bauer as a high-risk offender, though full identifying details from that notice were not available at press time.
A separate notice identifies Robert Joseph McCormack, 30, as also having changed his Jamestown address. McCormack now lists his residence as 1530 6th Avenue SW, Buffalo Motel, Number 30. He is described as a white male, six feet three inches tall, weighing 235 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair, and he currently has no vehicle.
The North Dakota Risk Level committee of the North Dakota Attorney General's Office has assigned McCormack a high-risk assessment. He was convicted in August 2013 in Grand Forks District Court of Gross Sexual Imposition committed when he was 23 years old, involving a three-year-old boy. His sentence was 20 years with 12 years suspended and 10 years of supervised probation. Police state he is not wanted at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court.
The department's notice draws a clear line between public awareness and vigilantism. "This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault, or intimidate the offender," the notice states. "Any attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders, their families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution."
Printed handouts with McCormack's full demographic information are available at the Jamestown Police Department. Additional information on registered sex offenders in North Dakota can be found through the state Attorney General's registry at sexoffender.nd.gov.
