James River Figure Skating Club to Stage Annual Ice Show at Jamestown Arena
The James River Figure Skating Club brings "Galaxy in Motion" to the John L. Wilson Arena March 27-29, with tickets starting at $7.

The James River Figure Skating Club opens its annual ice show, "Galaxy in Motion," at the John L. Wilson Arena inside the Winter Sports Building this Friday, with performances running through Sunday, March 29.
Evening shows are set for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Saturday and Sunday also feature matinees at 2 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $7 for students, and free for children pre-kindergarten age and younger.
The production draws skaters from across the full range of the club's programs, from beginners in learn-to-skate classes to competitive skaters who have spent the season training and placing at regional events. The annual ice show is designed to showcase the skills skaters have learned throughout the year while providing entertainment for the community. The show marks the culmination of the training and competition season, giving skaters the chance to cut loose without the pressure of competition, with volunteers stepping in to create costumes and props.
The James River Figure Skating Club was developed in 1977. It was sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating Association in 1978. Nearly five decades later, the club's annual production remains one of the signature events on the Jamestown entertainment calendar, staged each spring at the John L. Wilson Arena on a scale that, as past organizers have noted, compares to a dancer's recital, but on a much grander scale.
Costumes and ice time for rehearsals require a $100 commitment per skater, with local volunteers coordinating the logistical work that makes the multi-night production possible. This year's show, carrying the celestial theme of "Galaxy in Motion," arrives as the club closes out its 2025-26 season at its home ice on the north end of Jamestown.
