Jamestown Adjusts Holiday Garbage and Recycling Collection Schedule

The City of Jamestown announced on December 18 that city offices, the baling facility and the Recycling Center would be closed from noon Wednesday, December 24 through Sunday, December 28, with regular hours resuming Monday, December 29. To accommodate the holiday window, residential collection routes were shifted so that Tuesday and Wednesday routes were collected on Tuesday, December 23, and Thursday routes were collected on Wednesday, December 24.

The temporary closures mean the public will not be able to access the Recycling Center or the Baling Facility during the Christmas holiday period. The city also said both facilities would be closed on Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day, and that residential routes would be adjusted accordingly for that holiday as well. For Jamestown households this schedule represents a concentrated collection workload before the holiday closure. Residents whose scheduled pickup fell on Tuesday or Wednesday needed to have their carts out the night before or by early morning on Tuesday, December 23, while those on Thursday had service on Wednesday, December 24. Households and small businesses that rely on the city recycling services will need to plan for the facility closures over the holiday period, and to expect regular service to resume at the end of the holiday weekend.
