Jamestown Community Block Party opens booth registration for August 26 event

Booth registration is open for Jamestown’s 18th annual Community Block Party, giving vendors, nonprofits, churches and clubs a chance to claim space before the Aug. 26 gathering fills Main Street in downtown Jamestown. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., and the University of Jamestown says Main Street will be blocked off with booths set up along the side of the street.

The planning stage matters because the block party is built around participation, not just attendance. Local groups can use a booth to promote a cause, share information, sell food or merchandise, recruit volunteers or connect directly with residents. For downtown businesses and community groups, that means a built-in crowd and a chance to put services in front of people who may not otherwise stop in.

The University of Jamestown describes the Community Block Party as a city-wide event designed to welcome UJ students to Jamestown and familiarize them with local businesses and organizations. That focus gives the event a clear economic role as well as a social one, linking incoming students with the businesses, nonprofits and civic groups that make up daily life in the city.

The turnout is expected to be substantial. KSJB reported organizers were looking for about 300 new University of Jamestown students and more than 700 returning students this year. That student presence is a major reason booth space can matter for organizations trying to reach younger residents, families and visitors in one evening on downtown Main Street.

The block party has also become a familiar late-summer marker for Jamestown. News Dakota covered the Aug. 26 event earlier this month, and the University of Jamestown’s event page places the celebration at 5 p.m. on Aug. 26, with booths lining the street after Main Street is closed for the event. For local groups that want visibility before the crowds arrive, the registration window is the point where the event shifts from announcement to assembly.
