Jamestown finally had the kind of night that can change a season: Layla Becker broke through in the 69th minute, Briella Martin finished it in the 80th, and the Blue Jays left Rollie Greeno Field with their first win of 2026.

The 2-0 victory over Bismarck Legacy on Tuesday at the University of Jamestown’s Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium was more than a clean result. It was the end of an early stretch filled with close games and no payoff, and it gave Jamestown something every young team needs in April, a visible reward for playing well before the standings had shown it.

Becker provided the spark. She scored unassisted in the 69th minute to put Jamestown in front, then later helped set up the finish that put the match away. Martin struck in the 80th and final minute, turning a one-goal lead into a result that felt far more secure and far more important than the score line alone.

For most of the match, Jamestown looked like the better side. The Blue Jays controlled possession, stayed organized, and kept pressing until the openings finally came. That pressure showed up in the numbers, too, with Jamestown holding a 13-1 edge in shots on target. Belle Sjostrom handled goalkeeping duties for the Blue Jays and helped preserve the shutout as Legacy struggled to find a way through.

The win lifted Jamestown to 1-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in West Region play. Legacy fell to 1-5-0 overall and 1-4-0 in conference action. For Jamestown, the timing mattered as much as the result. A first win can reset the mood around a program, especially when it comes with discipline, a clean sheet and late goals from players already carrying the load in the attack.

The schedule turned quickly from there. Jamestown’s next match was set for Thursday, April 16, against Bismarck Century at the Sanford Sports Complex, giving the Blue Jays little time to celebrate but plenty of reason to believe the breakthrough could lead to something more.
