Spring cleanup in Jamestown comes with one deadline that can make or break pickup: set items at the roadway, as close to the curb or shoulder as possible, by 7 a.m. on the household’s assigned day. The city said each home may dispose of up to 500 pounds at no charge during the 2026 Residential Curbside Cleanup Week, scheduled for Monday, May 11 through Saturday, May 16, but residents must show proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

The timing matters because cleanup day is not necessarily the same as a regular garbage day. Crews move through neighborhoods on a set schedule, and the city says they will not return for items left out after pickup. Residents are also told not to call to ask what time the crew will arrive. The practical lesson is simple: put everything out early or risk keeping bulky junk at the curb until another round, if it is picked up at all.

Jamestown’s cleanup-week list covers basic household items, furniture, toys and mattresses, along with some small-scale building, remodeling and landscaping debris. The city’s FAQ says that smaller construction material is generally limited to about the volume of a level pickup-truck bed. Accepted debris includes wood, lumber, fencing, non-creosoted landscaping timbers and brick pavers. That makes the week especially useful for clearing out garages, sheds, basements and yards after winter weather and the spring thaw.

The city has also made clear that the property owner is responsible for proper disposal of all materials, and that allowing trash, rubbish or junk to accumulate in a way that creates a public nuisance is unlawful under Jamestown City Municipal Code Sec. 17-12. That puts cleanup week in the middle of a larger effort to keep residential lots, alleys and roadsides from becoming cluttered as outdoor work ramps up across the city.

Jamestown listed the cleanup on its Current Public Announcements page and its Sanitation & Solid Waste page, underscoring the event’s place in the city’s annual spring routine. Similar curbside cleanup weeks ran May 12-17, 2025, and May 13-18, 2024, making the 2026 schedule part of a familiar cycle for homeowners, landlords and anyone trying to clear out accumulated household clutter before it turns into a code issue.
