Amanda Burch went 2-for-2 with four runs batted in Saturday, carrying the University of Jamestown softball team to a 6-4 first-game win over Minnesota Crookston inside the Nelson Family Bubble. Crookston sophomore Gabrielle Gomez had other ideas in game two, throwing a four-hit complete-game shutout for a 2-0 Golden Eagles win that left the afternoon a split.

Burch did most of the heavy lifting in the opener while the Jimmies generated their best offense of the day. Madelyn Webb went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Katie Falk added two hits and an RBI across four at-bats, and Maddie Spaeth scored twice. Hope Ransome earned the pitching win to move to 7-6, with Abby Blair recording the save. Both contests were played at the Nelson Family Bubble due to weather-related site changes, with Crookston designated as the home team for both games despite the familiar surroundings for the Jimmies.

The second game belonged entirely to Gomez. The sophomore pitcher allowed just four hits across seven complete innings, completing the first shutout of her college career while the Jimmies could not manufacture a single run. Freshman Aubrey Quern pitched well for Jamestown, striking out six while working more than six innings and surrendering two runs on six hits, but with no offense behind her, Quern took the loss and dropped to 7-4.

The split moved Jamestown to 22-13 overall and 3-9 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. It was the fifth time in conference action the Jimmies have been held scoreless, a pattern that now spans more than a third of their NSIC schedule and underscores the need for consistent run production against quality pitching.

The turnaround is immediate. Jamestown hosts Northern State today at the Nelson Family Bubble, with game one at noon and game two at 2 p.m. The Jimmies earned their first two conference victories just last Friday against Minnesota State Moorhead; wins against the Wolves today would push the NSIC record to 5-9 and give Jamestown back-to-back winning stretches in league play for the first time this spring.
