Melissa Carmack's contributions to Jamestown Public Schools earned her the 2025 SHERO Award from Jamestown Regional Medical Center. With the nomination window for 2026 now open, JRMC's OB-GYN team is asking the community to identify who deserves that recognition next, with submissions due May 1.

The annual award honors women 18 and older who reside in central North Dakota and serve as visible role models through leadership, service or civic influence. Nominations can be submitted through JRMC's website or picked up at the hospital's gift shop in Jamestown. The OB-GYN team will review all submissions and select at least one recipient, who will be honored in a mid-May presentation and featured across JRMC's website and social channels as part of Women's Health Month.

Makenzie Breitbach, a nurse practitioner at JRMC, said the program "has shone a light on women whose impact runs deep in our community." She described the ideal candidate directly: "A SHERO is driven by talent, compassion and purpose."

Nominations should explain why the candidate is a role model, with specific examples of leadership, service or community influence. Supporting materials, including photos and letters, are accepted alongside the written submission. The JRMC Clinic is available by phone or email for help with nominations.

Carmack's 2025 recognition illustrates the kind of sustained, often unheralded work the award is designed to surface: years of commitment inside a Jamestown school system that shaped students and staff alike. Nominations for 2026 carry the same expectation, naming the programs, relationships or moments that made the nominee's impact tangible rather than abstract.

The deadline is May 1. The recipient will be recognized at a mid-May presentation.
