Mike Delfs, president and CEO of Jamestown Regional Medical Center, earned a place on Becker's Hospital Review's list of "Critical Access Hospital Presidents and CEOs to Know" for the seventh time, a distinction that now arrives alongside a new statewide responsibility.

In addition to the national recognition, Delfs was appointed chair of the North Dakota Hospital Association (NDHA) Board of Directors, effective Jan. 1. "I am honored to serve as board chair of this impactful organization," Delfs said. "The North Dakota Hospital Association plays a vital role in elevating the exceptional care provided by all 52 hospitals across the state while helping address the challenges of advancing innovation in both rural and urban communities."

The Becker's recognition is one of several national honors that have accumulated under Delfs' tenure at JRMC, the 25-bed critical access hospital on 20th Street SW that serves Stutsman County and the broader region. Under his leadership, JRMC has earned several national recognitions, including being named a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital by the National Rural Health Association, a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital by Chartis Center for Rural Health, and a Best Place to Work by Modern Healthcare.

That last distinction has become a pattern in Jamestown. JRMC was named one of Modern Healthcare's 2025 Best Places to Work in Healthcare, marking the eighth time the hospital has received that national honor. "We are honored to be named a Best Place to Work for the eighth time. This recognition isn't just about our past — it reflects our future," Delfs said. The hospital's workplace model centers on wellness programs, leadership training, peer recognition, and a commitment to work-life balance.

Becker's Healthcare also named Delfs and Chief Nursing Officer Trisha Jungels among its "CEOs and CNOs to Know" for 2024, recognizing both executives for their commitment to high-quality rural healthcare and service expansion in Stutsman County. "We are humbled and honored by the recognition Becker's Healthcare has given to our team," Delfs said of that listing.

The recognitions reflect a care footprint that has grown substantially since JRMC opened its current facility on July 31, 2011. Specialties including orthopedics, wound care, and women's health have been added to reduce the distance patients must travel for treatment. The hospital's economic reach is equally significant: JRMC accounts for a total financial impact of $34 million in the county and supports 464 jobs, including 282 direct positions.

Delfs' appointment as NDHA board chair further reflects the respect he has earned among healthcare leaders statewide and underscores his role in shaping the future of rural healthcare in North Dakota. For JRMC, which carries the stated mission to "compassionately revolutionize healthcare in the heartland," the dual recognition caps a stretch of sustained national visibility for both its leadership and its workforce culture.
