A former dairy farm southeast of Jamestown has been turned into a new destination for plants, produce and, eventually, hands-on farm experiences. Peaceful Acres Greenhouse & Gardens LLC marked its grand opening with a ribbon cutting at 3728 79th Ave. SE, where Alice, Rachel and Erik Laber are building a business around land that has long meant peace and renewal to their family.

The opening centered on the greenhouse, with the garden center and remodel still ahead. For now, the Labers are bringing customers in with flowers, vegetables, potting supplies, landscape fabric, garden tools, craft classes and seasonal produce. Their longer-range plan reaches well beyond spring bedding plants: perennial plants, native plants, trees, pumpkins, squash, gourds, ornamental corn, more vegetables and, eventually, fruit.

The farm’s next chapter also carries an economic message for Stutsman County. The Jamestown/Stutsman County Development Corporation describes itself as the lead economic development organization for the city and county, and says its mission includes supporting business growth, expansion, retention and entrepreneurial development. A greenhouse and garden center on former farm ground fits that mission in a practical way, giving local shoppers another nearby option while keeping agricultural land active and visible.

The project also reflects the Laber family’s deeper ties to the Jamestown area. Alice Laber was reported in January 2025 to have more than 40 years of tax experience through Jamestown Tax Services, with work focused on trucking and agricultural businesses, bookkeeping and payroll services. Erik Laber has also been identified in local reporting as Jamestown city forester, a role that connects the family to the community’s land and tree management as well as to private business.

Peaceful Acres is entering a community with established gardening roots. The Prairie Rose Garden Club has been part of Jamestown since the 1950s, and that long-running interest in growing things gives the new greenhouse a ready local audience. The business is also aiming to expand agritourism, suggesting the property may become a place where families do more than shop, spending time learning, visiting and returning as the seasons change.

For a county built around agriculture, the transformation of a dairy farm into a retail greenhouse and garden destination carries its own kind of significance. It keeps the land in use, adds a new small business east of Jamestown and turns a familiar farm property into something that can serve gardeners, families and seasonal shoppers year-round.
