Ultra-Runner Noah Coughlan Hits 3,200-Mile Mark in Jamestown During Cross-Country Journey

Noah Coughlan ran 35 miles from Valley City to Jamestown on Thursday, crossing the 3,200-mile mark of his Run For America and drawing local volunteers, law enforcement escorts and residents to the route to mark the milestone in person.

The Vacaville, California runner is working his way through all 50 U.S. states on foot, with a target finish date of July 4, 2026, timed to coincide with the nation's 250th anniversary. If he completes the full circuit, he would join only a handful of people ever to run across all 50 states entirely on foot.

Coughlan's multi-year project combines endurance running with public outreach. Along the route, he speaks with Americans about what the flag and country mean to them, raising awareness for causes he supports while logging miles through communities most transcontinental routes skip.

The Valley City-to-Jamestown leg capped a long push across the North Dakota plains. Local volunteers coordinated logistics for his arrival, including water stations and route guidance, while residents joined for short segments and offered refreshments and support. Law enforcement provided escort assistance through the city.

Media outlets across the Midwest have tracked different segments of Coughlan's route as he has moved east through the Plains states. His journey accumulated thousands of miles before Thursday's 3,200-mile threshold, reached in Jamestown after months on the road.
