Utility work closes 2nd Avenue Southeast in Jamestown Monday, water outage expected
2nd Ave SE in southeast Jamestown closed for utility work Monday, with a water outage stretching from 3rd to 5th St SE during the 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. window.

A one-block stretch of 2nd Ave SE closed Monday in southeast Jamestown, and the utility work also left nearby properties facing a water outage across a wider two-block area.
The City of Jamestown said the closure covered 2nd Ave SE from 3rd St to 4th St SE, with the outage reaching from 3rd St to 5th St SE. Crews were expected to be on site from about 7 a.m. until about 5 p.m., or until the work was complete, and a detour was in place for drivers trying to get through the area.
That made the disruption especially important for anyone with a reason to be on the southeast side during the workday. Delivery trucks, commuters heading through the neighborhood, and families trying to reach nearby homes or businesses all had to account for a block of closed pavement and a temporary loss of water service. The timing also overlapped with the morning and afternoon hours when school traffic, errands and service calls often run through the same streets.
The city said the closure was tied to utility work handled through the City Engineer’s Office, which signaled that the project went beyond a simple street blockage. The temporary water outage suggested crews were working on a live utility issue that could affect nearby properties for much of the day.
The notice was listed among the city’s May 4 public announcements, underscoring that this was a same-day operational issue rather than a long construction project. It also fit a pattern Jamestown has used before, with similar short-term utility-related closures announced in southeast Jamestown in April 2025.
For residents on or near 2nd Ave SE, the biggest pinch fell on access and routine. Parking, water use and short trips across the block all became harder for the day, especially where traffic normally cuts through between 3rd St SE and 5th St SE. The city’s detour and the limited closure window were meant to keep the interruption brief, but the impact on daily movement in that part of Jamestown was immediate.
