Suffolk County Police arrested 22-year-old Bayport resident Ryan Yost after detectives discovered images of child pornography and executed a home search following a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Digital Forensics Unit carried out a search warrant at Yost’s residence at 269 East Road and recovered the images from a cell phone. Yost was taken into custody at approximately 6:30 p.m. on January 20.

Yost faces two felony counts: Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child Under 16. He was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 21. A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation began with the tip to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and proceeded with digital forensics aimed at validating online leads and preserving evidence. That coordinated approach underscores how regional and federal partners work together to address crimes that cross digital and physical boundaries. For local residents, the case is a reminder that online activity often brings investigations to the doorstep and that law enforcement is using specialized units to pursue such allegations.

Community implications extend beyond the individual arrest. Bayport families and caregivers may feel heightened concern about children’s safety online. Parents and guardians in Suffolk County should review privacy settings, discuss online boundaries with children, and report suspicious contacts or content to police. Anyone with information on this incident, or who believes they may be a victim, is asked to contact Digital Forensics Unit detectives at 631-852-6572.

The arrest also highlights the role of tips from the public and interagency task forces in uncovering exploitative material. Neighbors on East Road and across Bayport may notice an increased police presence while investigators complete evidence processing and legal procedures. As the case moves to court, authorities will follow established prosecutorial and discovery processes, and community members can expect updates from Suffolk County Police and the local courts.

This case matters locally because it touches on child safety, the reach of digital investigations, and the community’s role in reporting crimes. Residents should stay vigilant, keep lines of communication open with young people, and report any relevant information to law enforcement as the matter proceeds through the criminal justice system.
