Calverton House Fire on Deep Hole Road Contained Within 25 Minutes
A female occupant was hospitalized for burns after a Deep Hole Road house fire Monday that 50 Riverhead firefighters knocked down in 25 minutes.

Riverhead Fire Chief Pete Kurzyna called for mutual aid and dispatched roughly 50 firefighters after a house fire broke out on Deep Hole Road in Calverton Monday evening, with crews bringing the blaze under control within 25 minutes of the approximately 6:20 p.m. call.
Riverhead Police arrived first and confirmed a working fire at the residence, triggering Kurzyna's request for mutual aid that drew a rapid intervention team from Jamesport Fire Department, along with Wading River and Ridge fire departments. Flanders Fire Department stood by at Riverhead's headquarters. The Riverhead Fire Department's response included two ladder trucks, four engines, and a fire police vehicle.
A female occupant of the home was evacuated and transported to an area hospital for treatment of burns. No further information on her identity or condition was available.
Damage to the structure was described as minimal. "Upon arrival, crews were met with a working fire and immediately went to work," the Riverhead Fire Department said. "The fire was quickly knocked down and brought under control in a short period of time, limiting damage to the structure."

Kurzyna credited his department's coordination with the responding agencies. "We had an excellent response and a job well done," he said.
The Riverhead Fire Department also acknowledged the support network that kept the response moving. "We thank all assisting agencies for their continued support and teamwork," the department said, singling out Flanders for holding the station.
No cause for the fire had been released as of Wednesday. It was not clear whether the Fire Marshal's Office or any investigative agency had been assigned to the Deep Hole Road incident.
