Jeffrey C. Buffalino, 33, of Copiague, was charged with 10 counts of Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child after New York State Police Troop L investigators said they found child sexual abuse material on his personally owned electronic devices, concluding a computer-crimes probe on March 19.

The arrest followed an investigation by the New York State Police Troop L Computer Crimes Unit, working alongside investigators from the NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation. State police said the inquiry revealed Buffalino was in possession of illegal material on his personal electronics, with Newsday reporting that the material was found specifically on his cellphone.

Each of the 10 counts is classified as a class E felony under New York Penal Law §263.16, which criminalizes the possession of sexual performances involving minors. Troop L's Computer Crimes Unit typically opens such cases through cyber tips or digital leads, then seeks search warrants before conducting forensic examinations of seized phones, laptops, and storage drives. Investigators in prior Suffolk County cases have removed multiple devices from a residence before making charging decisions.

Buffalino is scheduled to appear in Suffolk County First District Court on April 17, 2026, at 9 a.m. The charges are accusations only, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Troop L Public Information Officer Trooper Brittany Burton is the designated media contact for the case. The unit is commanded by Major Christopher P. Casale.
