Fire Reported at Meadowridge Lane and Cedar Swamp Road in Glen Head
Nassau County firefighters responded to a fire at Meadowridge Lane and Cedar Swamp Road in Glen Head Friday, a corridor that has seen three major blazes since October 2024.

Firefighters responded Friday to a fire at Meadowridge Lane and Cedar Swamp Road in Glen Head, adding to a string of emergencies that have made Cedar Swamp Road one of Nassau County's most tested fire corridors in recent years.
Nassau County fire departments were dispatched to the scene, with motorists advised to use caution and expect delays near the intersection. The Glenwood H&L, E&H Co., Inc., known as the Glenwood Fire Company, serves as the primary fire agency for Glen Head, a hamlet within the Town of Oyster Bay. The all-volunteer department, founded in 1907, protects Glen Head, Glenwood Landing, Old Brookville, and Roslyn Harbor. For significant incidents, it draws mutual aid from the Sea Cliff Fire Department, East Norwich Fire Company No. 1, and the Glen Cove Fire Department, along with responses from the Nassau County Fire Marshal and the Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad.
Details on the nature of Friday's fire remained limited, but the incident arrived on a road with a documented history of major emergencies. On April 8, 2025, a fourth-alarm fire at the Big Valley Nursery storage building on Cedar Swamp Road required approximately 150 firefighters from roughly a dozen departments and closed the road in both directions until around 2 p.m. Three firefighters sustained minor injuries treated at the scene; the blaze was brought under control within two hours.
Just months before that, on October 30, 2024, a gas explosion sparked a massive residential fire on Cedar Swamp Road at approximately 5:53 p.m. Nassau County Police, the Glenwood Fire Company, mutual-aid companies, the Nassau County Fire Marshal, the Arson Bomb Squad, and the Town of Oyster Bay all responded. All residents were safely evacuated with no injuries reported, though the home suffered substantial structural damage. That same autumn, a large brush fire erupted near Pheasant Hill Road and Cedar Swamp Road as Long Island endured drought conditions; crews from the Glenwood Fire Company, Sea Cliff Fire Department, East Norwich Fire Company No. 1, and the Glen Cove Fire Department battled that blaze from roughly 7:30 p.m. throughout the night without destroying any structures or injuring any residents.
The Nassau County Police Department has historically imposed road closures along Cedar Swamp Road during major incidents, and drivers should anticipate potential closures near Meadowridge Lane until the situation is resolved.
