Middle Island Motorcyclist Dies After Crashing Into Trees on Ashton Road
Cyle Ashby, 53, of Medford died after his 2020 Vande Excelsior motorcycle left Ashton Road and struck trees near Sylvia Lane in Middle Island.

Cyle Ashby, 53, of Medford was riding southbound on Ashton Road in Middle Island when he lost control of his 2020 Vande Excelsior motorcycle near Sylvia Lane, left the roadway, and struck multiple trees. He was transported to NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead. The crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on March 17.
Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating the incident. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check, and no cause for the loss of control has been determined. Ashby is remembered by his longtime girlfriend, Heather, as a loyal and loving partner who brought humor and creativity into the lives of those around him. The couple had been together for 13 years and were planning a move to South Carolina to start a new chapter together.
Heather said Ashby loved building motorcycles and trucks and was always coming up with new ideas and designs. "He was very loyal to his friends and always made people laugh," she said. "He loved playing games with friends and spending time with family." She added that Ashby built a close bond with her daughter and never stopped loving his family, calling him her best friend and someone who will never be forgotten.
The investigation remains ongoing.
