Patchogue Man, 22, Seriously Hurt After Being Struck on Sunrise Highway Ramp

Daniel Hoffmann, 22, of Farmingdale was standing in the middle of the westbound Sunrise Highway Exit 51 ramp in Patchogue about 4:15 a.m. Sunday when a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze struck him, leaving him seriously injured and shutting down that stretch of Route 27 for more than three hours.
Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives said Dayanna Reyes-Renderos, 19, of East Patchogue, was driving the Cruze westbound on Sunrise Highway when she exited at Exit 51 and hit Hoffmann on the ramp. Emergency responders transported Hoffmann to Stony Brook University Hospital, where authorities described his injuries as serious. His current condition has not been publicly disclosed. Reyes-Renderos was not injured.
The 2015 Chevrolet Cruze was impounded for a safety check. No charges or citations have been reported in connection with the crash.

The westbound side of Sunrise Highway in the Patchogue area remained closed during the police investigation before reopening around 7:30 a.m., according to police.
Fifth Squad detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call 631-854-8552.
