A Patchogue man faces up to 25 years to life in prison after a Suffolk County jury convicted him on 25 counts stemming from a three-month campaign of knifepoint sexual assaults targeting six women he lured with promises of drugs, money, or a place to shower.

Gary Conyers, 59, was found guilty March 18 before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei on eight counts of Predatory Sexual Assault, seven counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, seven counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, and one count of Strangulation. The Predatory Sexual Assault charges are Class A-II felonies, the most serious category in the indictment.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, the attacks occurred between October and December 2023. Conyers deliberately targeted women struggling with addiction and poverty, drawing them in with offers before isolating them in his car or home, where he used or threatened a knife to force compliance. In several cases the violence extended beyond the sexual assaults: he slashed one victim in the neck, stabbed another in the face, and strangled a third until she lost consciousness.

"This defendant carried out a calculated campaign of sexual abuse, preying on six vulnerable women and forcing them into degrading acts by threatening violence," said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.

Conyers was arrested May 27, 2024, following a joint investigation by the District Attorney's Office, the Suffolk County Police Department, and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office. Detective David Leath of the Suffolk County Police Department led the investigation, with further assistance from Lisa Labriola of the District Attorney's Tech Services Unit and Detective Investigator Lorraine Winters.

Assistant District Attorneys Veronica McMahon and Tara O'Donnell of the Major Crime Bureau prosecuted the case, supported by Crime Victim Advocates Nicole DeGuida, Gisel Navalo, and Keily Pozo, along with Discovery Expeditor Taylor Steele. Conyers is represented by defense attorney Scott Gross.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 21, 2026, at which point Conyers could receive a maximum of 25 years to life on the top counts alone.
