A Swedish woman who investigators say tried to retrieve an international cocaine shipment moving through ordinary FedEx channels was sentenced to 10 years in prison after a Patchogue undercover pickup ended the case.

Amanda Abrahamsson, 26, pleaded guilty on April 3 before Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, a Class A-I felony. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said the sentence imposed on May 8 reflected a case built around 10 kilograms of cocaine shipped from California to Suffolk County and pushed through a chain of package handling, phone calls and surveillance.

Prosecutors said the case began in August 2024, when two packages containing individually wrapped kilograms of cocaine were flagged and intercepted at a FedEx facility. Investigators later said Abrahamsson went to a FedEx location in Bohemia to ask about the packages, then called FedEx to track them and supplied a callback number. Law enforcement then arranged a controlled pickup at a Walgreens in Patchogue, where Abrahamsson arrived on Sept. 3, 2024, took possession of the packages from an undercover officer and was arrested immediately.

At the time of her arrest, prosecutors said Abrahamsson had two cellular phones, including one used in communications with FedEx and law enforcement. She later provided a written confession admitting her role in the drug distribution. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said the case was handled with the Suffolk County Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, showing how investigators used package tracking, digital contacts and coordinated surveillance to stop narcotics before they reached local streets.

Tierney said Abrahamsson came from outside Suffolk County to commit the crimes and underestimated the reach of local detectives and federal partners. Assistant District Attorney Dana Gremaux prosecuted the case. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer so Abrahamsson can be deported to Sweden after she serves her sentence. Abrahamsson was represented by Jason Bassett, Esq.
