Unidentified Person Found Dead After Wyandanch House Fire, Police Investigate
A man was found dead inside a two-story Wyandanch home on Cypress Street after firefighters extinguished a Saturday afternoon blaze, Suffolk County police said.

A man was discovered dead inside a two-story house on Cypress Street in Wyandanch after firefighters put out a Saturday afternoon fire, Suffolk County police said. Detectives from the county Homicide Squad and Arson Section have opened an investigation, but the department says investigators currently believe the blaze is noncriminal in nature.
Police and local media reported emergency calls came in around 1:50 p.m., with first responders arriving shortly before 2 p.m. Newsday described Wyandanch Fire Company crews on the scene as they battled heavy flames and smoke, and said the body was discovered after the fire was extinguished. Police said no one else was injured.
The decedent has not been publicly identified. Daily Voice noted, “The person’s identity will be determined following an autopsy by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, authorities said.” NYPost likewise reported that “Police said the county medical examiner will perform an autopsy to confirm the victim’s identity.” Multiple accounts, including Newsday and Daily Voice, refer to the victim as a man who was alone in the home at the time of the blaze.
Reporting varies on the exact street address. NYPost listed the house as 30 Cypress St., while Daily Voice referred to the incident on the 30 block of Cypress Street; Newsday identified the site only as a two-story home on Cypress Street. Newsday photo captions credit Paul Mazza for images of Wyandanch Fire Company firefighters responding to the scene, and Daily Voice photo material carried a bknyfdphotography credit in its feed.

Suffolk County police provided the investigative posture used by regional outlets: “Suffolk County police homicide and arson detectives are investigating but believe the cause is noncriminal, the release said.” The Homicide Squad and Arson Section remain the lead units, and the Medical Examiner’s autopsy will determine the decedent’s identity and help establish cause and manner of death.
Authorities have not released additional details about the occupant or the timeline beyond the afternoon response and the pending autopsy. Suffolk County police and the Medical Examiner’s Office are the sources to confirm the address, the victim’s identity, and the official cause of death as the investigation continues.
