A passing motorist's 911 call shortly after 8 p.m. on March 15 set off a chain of events that ended with a Westhampton man in handcuffs and a pedestrian fighting serious injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital. Southampton Town Police announced on March 19 that they had arrested Alfredo Osorio, 34, and charged him with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash in which someone sustained serious physical injuries, a class E felony.

The incident unfolded on Lewis Road near County Road 104 in East Quogue, where a passing motorist spotted a man lying on the side of the road. Police received the 911 call reporting that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian and left the scene without stopping to render assistance. The victim was airlifted by medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

Osorio was arrested on Wednesday, processed, and held overnight for arraignment the following morning in Southampton Town Justice Court. Police have not disclosed how investigators connected him to the crash in the days between the incident and his arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing. Southampton Town Police detectives are encouraging anyone with information to call the department's detective division at 631-702-2230.
